Red stone from the Gros Ventre Range accents the exterior of this historic hotel. The upper level is half-timbered. Guests step from old-time wooden sidewalks into a lobby appointed with Western art and antiques, dark-wood paneling, overstuffed couches, and a fireplace topped by a moose head. The original grand staircase from 1941 leads to a sitting area with beamed cathedral ceiling, red-rock fireplace, and mountain views. The hallway leading to the bar is lined with stills from classic Westerns filmed at or near the hotel. A “Wall of History” displays newspaper articles from 1941 and photos of movie-star guests.

Amenity highlights: At the five-level Avanyu Spa, waterfalls spill over boulders into a freeform outdoor pool, and spa tubs are tucked into steam-filled grottos. What to expect: The Teton Mountain Lodge & Spa faces the slopes of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The warmly inviting, three-level lobby features a log-beam cathedral ceiling, wrought-iron chandeliers, log pillars, and Oriental rugs on gleaming hardwood floors. Richly hued tapestries and vintage snowshoes are displayed on the walls. Two wood-burning fireplaces lend a warm glow. Guests relax on cushy sofas with faux-fur throws.

Amenity highlights: Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the indoor lap pool and spa tub, providing natural light and commanding mountain views. A soaring cathedral ceiling adds to the sense of spaciousness. Just outside, the year-round lap pool and spa tub are on a terraced deck, with panoramic vistas.

The resort’s Solitude Spa features 10 treatment rooms, including two couples’ rooms with fireplaces and a hydrotherapy room. The resort also offers a large outdoor rooftop spa tub and a health club.

The Cascade Grill House & Spirits showcases New Western cuisine, complemented by views of the Gros Ventre Mountains.

Insider tip: The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers complimentary snowshoe tours, led by a Forest Service naturalist, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (schedule subject to change). Tours begin—and snowshoes can be rented—at the resort’s Nordic Center, across the parking lot from the clock tower. Reservations are advisable but not required.

Insider tip: At the Bar J Ranch, 11 miles away, a hearty chuckwagon dinner is followed by a music and comedy show starring the Bar J Wranglers—six singing, yodeling, harmonizing, banjo-strumming, guitar-playing cowboys. Popular with families and groups, the Bar J is open Memorial Day weekend through September.

This hotel is located one mile west of Jackson’s historic Town Square and offers mountain-lodge ambiance marked by stonework and peeled beams of lodgepole pine. Elk-antler chandeliers and hand-carved bears underscore the western theme. The entrance to Grand Teton National Park is five miles away and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is 12 miles away.
