Hotel Information: A nine-metre well which was the source of water for the Breakwater prison complex in 1860 is now a national monument and the central focus of the hotels’ lobby. Two small seating areas on either side of the lobby have cream-coloured walls lined with photographs of the many ships that have graced the Cape shores. After being welcomed by uniformed concierge staff, guests can be seen relaxing in the bar area or lounging by the pool.
Amenity highlights: Traditional Cape Malay cuisine is served in the hotel’s restaurant which is a beautifully restored prison ward with original stonework, wooden beamed ceilings and soft lighting. Secure underground parking is available (fee) and complimentary valet service is on hand. Guests of the hotel also have full access to Skin wellness centre located in the Commodore Hotel next door.
Insider tip: Within five kilometres of the hotel lies Signal hill which separates the suburbs of Green Point from the city bowl. A car park and picnic spot at the top offers spectacular views of the city and Table Mountain and is the ideal spot to watch the sunset over the Atlantic.

Quarterdeck Restaurant - Occupying what used to be the Cape Colony’s convict station, the Quarterdeck restaurant is an intimate dining area with original stone-work, wooden-beamed ceilings and low lighting. Guests can sample a wide selection of local dishes prepared in the traditional Cape Malay cooking style which mixes sweet and savoury flavours using spices and other seasonings.
