Located in a neo-Georgian heritage listed building, this hotel maintains the feel of the original purpose of the building – a private club. It has a staircase that was imported from London and which winds its way from the lobby up to the 5th floor. Original artworks hang on the wall all the way up. The hotel’s reception area has a marble checked floor and a baby grand piano, while the club also has a guest lounge with two billiard tables and plush, upholstered sofas and armchairs. The hotel also has a fitness centre, restaurant, café, grand dining room and two function rooms. Functions can be held in the dining room, guest lounge, or two specialist function rooms. Internet access is high-speed (complimentary) in the guest lounge. The hotel is entirely smoke free.

The Perham Room is located on the ground floor and is a boardroom that can seat up to 16 people. The Butterworth Room is located on level one and can cater for up to 25 people. Driving directions from Wellington Airport (WLG): Follow the exit signs to Wellington City. This is State Highway One. At the corner of Buckle and Taranaki Streets, turn right and follow this road for approximately 200 metres north. Turn left into Jervois Quay. Follow Jervois Quay north for approximately two kilometres. This road becomes Customhouse Quay. Turn left into Ballance Street. The Wellesley in on the left-hand side of Ballance Street.
Dining
Open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is choice of continental or cooked to order. Other meals are traditional English with roasts and steaks a feature of the dinner menu. Service is silver service with linen tablecloths and silverwear branded with Wellesley crest. The restaurant is lit by chandeliers, with candelabras in the windows. Animal heads are hung on the walls around the restaurant.
