Hotel Information: Built in the 1950s as an apartment building, this boutique hotel sits on a brick-paved, tree-lined street in Washington D.C.’s historic Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Insider tip: The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage presents a complimentary show daily at 6 PM. Performers run the gamut from French folk dancers to jazz quintets to children’s choirs to storytellers. The shows take place in the center’s gleaming Grand Foyer overlooking the Potomac. After the show, guests can have drinks on the terrace beyond the foyer’s 60-foot windows or dine in the rooftop restaurants.
Rooms
The River Inn's suites average 450 square feet but seem even larger, thanks to wall-spanning windows overlooking the city or the Potomac. Each suite has a large, marble-floored kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, four-burner stovetop, microwave, sink, coffeemaker, coffee grinder, cookware, dishware, and utensils. Living areas have sofa beds and six-foot-wide writing desks.
High-speed Internet access is complimentary. TVs include pay movies and video games (surcharge).
Marble bathrooms feature plush bathrobes, pedestal sinks, massage showerheads, and separate dressing areas with granite vanities.
A copy of The Washington Post is delivered to the door every morning, and turndown service is provided at night.

Rock Creek Park, also three miles from the hotel, is a 1,800-acre oasis with hiking and biking trails, a nature center/planetarium, and remnants of Civil War forts. Trail rides are available through the Rock Creek Park Horse Center. The park has 15 soft-surface and 10 hard-surface tennis courts; reservations are generally required.
