Hotel Information: After an extensive, $22-million renovation in 2004, The Beacon Hotel now features an updated façade and expanded banquet and meeting space. The bright, contemporary lobby has a sitting area with a flat-screen TV; a casual restaurant is down the steps to the left. Light modern rock and pop music fills the ground floor. A mix of corporate, government, and leisure travelers stay here.

Insider tip: The new Washington Nationals baseball team plays home games at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, four miles from the hotel.
