Hotel Information: Tracing its origins to 1118 when the first building on the site sheltered Templar Knights en route to wage war in the Holy Land, what was to become Luna Hotel Baglioni was known in the 16th century as Locanda della Luna (Moonlight Tavern). Today the hotel features opulent 18th-century styling and offers a tranquil environment close to St Mark’s Square.
Amenity highlights: The sitting room opens onto a flowerbox-lined terrace that overlooks a gondola basin and the Royal Garden of St Mark's. The room includes a painted-beam ceiling, gold silk-damask walls, Murano-glass light fixtures, antique furniture, and a marble floor. In addition to French and Italian antique furniture, original French and Italian paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries are displayed in public rooms and hallways.
Insider tip: Among the hotel's collection of antique furniture is a round, gilded Louis XVI table surrounded by velvet ropes in a salon near the second-floor elevator. The table has a portrait of the king in the centre and small portraits of various notables around the edge.
