Amenity highlights: Location is key at this quayside hotel above a popular public market. The hotel’s Tantra Waterfront Lounge & Grill overlooks the harbor and does extra duty on the weekends when a DJ sets up shop and starts spinning the platters.

Insider tip: Visitors may not be able to swing on a star but they can sway on a suspension bridge dangling 50 meters (165 ft) above the frequently raging, snow-fed waters of Lynn Creek. Dating from 1912, the wood-slat and wire-rope structure, 6.5 km (4 mi) from the hotel, affords easy and exhilarating access to numerous hiking trails on the North Shore.
