Hotel Information: Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the building occupied by the hotel was for some 200 years an important part of the island’s picturesque port. Before becoming a hotel in the mid-20th century, the building served as a warehouse, a barracks for the Danish Gendarmes, a headquarters for harbor masters, and a sailors' haven. Now owned by a Dane, the hotel is being upgraded during step-by-step renovations.
Amenity highlights: A second-story sundeck provides sweeping views of Christiansted Harbor. Guests can take a ferry from the Christiansted National Historic Site, adjacent to the hotel, 200 yards across the harbor to a sandy beach on the small island of Protestant Cay. An independent water-sports center in the hotel's retail section offers glass-bottom, power-boat, and snorkeling excursions via sailboard to Buck Island Reef National Monument off St. Croix's north shore.
Insider tip: Approximately 150 yards west of the hotel along the harbor-side boardwalk is the Deck Bar, part of Rum Runners restaurant. A light shines nightly in front of the bar, attracting tarpon for a daily feeding.

The King Christian Hotel has 40 guestrooms in the top two stories of a three-story coral-colored building with an elevator. Ceiling fans supplement air conditioning. The center also books scuba excursions that originate in the Salt River Bay National Park & Ecological Preserve.
