Hotel Information: This landmark hotel, built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 for passengers from nearby Union Station, has welcomed dignitaries and royalty—including Queen Elizabeth II. Guests enter to a lobby with hand-painted ceilings and travertine pillars. The hotel is located above PATH, a vast underground shopping and transportation complex with access to Union Station. CN Tower is three blocks away.
Amenity highlights: Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the Royal York is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building. The hotel offers a health club with a skylit indoor lap pool, spa tub, saunas, and steam rooms. The hotel's EPIC restaurant serves a traditional afternoon tea and a Sunday brunch. Other amenities include a business center and 24-hour fitness center. Two levels of shops and services include the Elizabeth Milan Day Spa.
Insider tip: If you're looking for a place to meet up with friends or family prior to shopping and sightseeing, the hotel's lobby clock is a popular spot. During World War II, Canadian soldiers promised to meet each other under the clock in the lobby once the war was over. The clock has been a popular rendezvous spot ever since.
