Hotel Information: The 1950s-style concrete exterior of this 15-story hotel belies the scenic, 20,000-square-meter landscaped garden found on the other end of the large lobby. Business travelers and guests attending weddings and other functions can meander past a Japanese garden and Koi pond on their way to the neighboring International Convention Center or two other Prince hotels in the park-like complex. Scattered throughout are 250 cherry trees, a Japanese tea house, and a pagoda, which was once a Buddhist shrine.
Amenity highlights: Weddings and social events are held in an annexed Meiji (Victorian) Era-house that has seen the likes of Japanese and international notables over the years, including an emperor. Eleven restaurants and bars include everything from a casual sushi counter to a formal French restaurant overlooking the gardens. Guests of the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa also have complimentary use of the fitness center and spa tubs at the neighboring Sakura Tower.
Insider tip: Attractions in their own right, the complex’s 250 cherry trees give reason to linger in the central garden area when spring brings them to full bloom.

Getting there: Rental cars are not recommended for travelers unfamiliar with the Tokyo area. Efficient and economical transportation options from Narita Airport include limited-express and express trains, or airport buses; taxis are not advised due to high fares and the sheer distance (66 km) of Narita Airport from the city center. A monorail and airport buses to the city center are available at Haneda Airport.
Getting around: For visitors, driving in Tokyo can be a confusing and crowded experience and is not recommended. Taxis are available at nearly every street corner and at designated ranks outside rail stations and in major centers; fares can be costly (most start at JPY660 and increase from there). Trains and subways are the most efficient and economical modes of transportation and are relatively easy to navigate, but get very busy during peak times (mornings and early evenings). The city’s 13 lines are all color-coded and include bilingual signs and maps. Cars operate from around 5 AM to midnight; fares start at JPY160. Shinagawa (JR and Keihin Kyuko lines) and Takanawadai Station (subway Toei Asakusa line) are within 0.5 km of the hotel. The bus system is not as easily navigable, particularly for travelers who cannot decipher the Japanese signage. All fees subject to change without notice.
