Travel Details

Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok

Hotel Information: Entry into the hotel is from one of two lobbies, one in the Shangri-La Wing, and one in the Krungthep Wing. The atmosphere is open and elegant. Tropical riverfront gardens enclose outdoor swimming and dining areas. The Shangri-La attracts both leisure and business travellers as well as conference groups.

Insider tip: Canals (known in Bangkok as Klongs) were once main arteries of transportation in the city, to such an extent that Sir John Bowring dubbed Bangkok the ‘Venice of the East’. As late as the 1950’s, they were still used as major thoroughfares. Charter a long-tailed river taxi to tour the city’s many Klongs, and get a glimpse into the past of Thailand’s capital.

Spa

The Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok’s Chi Spa is modelled on a Tibetan temple and at 994 square metres (10,700 square feet), it is one of the largest spa facilities in Bangkok. The spa has views of the river, and houses four ‘couples suites’, two single suites, three suites with private facilities, a spa pool, an outdoor spa tub, and a boutique. Some 30 treatments include Himalayan bath therapy and milk-honey wraps.

Chi, the universal life force that governs wellbeing and vitality, is integral to the hotel’s Chi Spa. The spa’s signature therapies balance yin and yang while harmonising the five elements of metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. The Shangri-La legend, set in the Himalayan Mountains, provides the concept of fusing ancient healing traditions, philosophies, and rituals. In order to provide customised treatments, a questionnaire determining element sign is offered to guests upon arrival.
