Nikko World Heritage Full-Day Tour
Discover a unique shrine nestled in a Japanese forest and famous for its ornate and colorfully decorated buildings. Then, explore the lakes and waterfalls of gorgeous Nikko National Park on a guided full-day tour.
Travel to Nikko via deluxe coach from Tokyo. Visit Toshogu Shrine, which dates back to 1617 and has been named a World Heritage Site. An exception to most others in Japan, this shrine is renowned for its enumerable wood carvings, copious gilding, and brilliant colors throughout. Admire the elaborate architecture and the omnipresent mythical beasts meticulously carved on the various structures and watching over the grounds. Keep an eye out for the famous carving of the “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” monkeys at the Sacred Stable.
Enjoy lunch at a Japanese-style restaurant before traveling on to Nikko National Park. (You may include or exclude the price of lunch by selecting the corresponding ticket type below.) Gaze high up the rock face to find the source of Kegon Waterfall cascading down the soaring vertical cliffs. Spilling downward over 330 feet (100 m), the falls are not only one of the largest in Japan, but are considered by many to be one of the three finest in the country.
Situated at the foot of the revered volcano Mount Nantaj, you’ll find the sparkling waters and forested shores of Lake Chuzenji. Created by lava flows thousands of years ago, the lake is known for the extraordinary depth of its waters—the deepest point measuring 528 feet (161 m).
On your way back to Tokyo, you’ll experience the famed Irohazaka Zigzag Driveway with a total of 48 hairpin turns. This tightly winding road looks like a line of stitches cinching up the mountainside.
