Cityrama Tokyo Afternoon Tour
Discover the highlights of Tokyo on a guided afternoon tour. Soar over the city at Tokyo Tower. Explore an ancient temple, Tokyo’s high-end shopping, and more—all without ever leaving the city.
Get a bird’s-eye view of the bustling city below on top of the world’s tallest self-supporting steel tower, the Tokyo Tower Observatory. Stretching 1,093 feet (333 m) into the sky, the Tokyo Tower is 43 feet (13 m) taller than its counterpart in Paris—the Eiffel Tower. Take in commanding views from high above in this symbol for Japan’s rebirth as an economic power, built in 1958. On a clear day, keep an eye out for Mount Fuji in the distance.
Continuing on, drive past the National Diet Building. Completed in 1936 and constructed entirely out of Japanese building materials, this imposing building houses the Japanese House of Parliament. Stop next at the Imperial Palace Plaza where the imperial family of Japan resides—also known as the heart of Tokyo—and formerly the site of Edo Castle. Take time to snap photos of the outside grounds and gardens of this impressive royal complex.
Explore Tokyo’s oldest and most popular Buddhist temple, Asakusa Kannon. Completed in 645 AD, the true origins of this homage to the goddess of compassion are now only legend. Browse the various small food and souvenir shops that pepper the long entrance to the temple, known as Nakamisi. With many centuries of history along this arcade, these shops have long catered to the countless pilgrims coming to visit the temple.
The last stop on your tour is the prestigious and fashionable Ginza shopping district—the most celebrated shopping and amusement area of Tokyo. Enjoy window shopping at the high-end department stores and boutiques, sampling the cuisine at the restaurants, or sipping an espresso at one of the many coffee shops—all located in an area with the highest real estate value in Japan.
