Zhu Jia Jiao and Seven Treasure Town - One-Day Excursion
Spend a fascinating day exploring two jewel-like villages near Shanghai, but a world away. Walk streets more than a thousand years old, sample rice wine, relax, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Lose yourself strolling the labyrinthine granite avenues and manmade canals of old town Zhu Jia Jiao—a protected area of Shanghai where visitors can glimpse the bygone architecture and social traditions of old China. Built in a fan shape on the banks of the Dianpu River, Zhu Jia Jiao is famous for its 36 distinctive bridges built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The spans are different shapes, sizes, and styles, from wooden to stone to marble, connecting a zigzag of narrow old streets through quaint courtyards.
Your tour includes a cruise and a stroll down ancient streets, over unique bridges, and into the central area with its charming shops and restaurants serving local specialties. Follow along as your guide leads you to beautifully preserved homes, impressive temples, scenic tea houses, and the village’s pride and joy, the five-arch bridge. br>
Travel on to quaint Seven Treasure Town—another historic village near Shanghai. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Seven Treasures was a prosperous marketplace known for its cloth, yarn, carpentry, rice wine, and water. The textiles were treasured all over the world.
