Hang Zhou “Heaven on Earth” Day Tour

Journey to an ethereal land Marco Polo once called “the most beautiful and magnificent city in the world.” Spend a day in one of China’s seven ancient capitals as well as one of its 10 most scenic cities.

A morning drive from Shanghai brings you to Hang Zhou, a city adored for millennia by poets, painters, and artists for its inspirational beauty. Begin at iconic Liuhe (Six Harmonies) Pagoda. Built during the Song Dynasty (circa 1165 AD), this octagonal pagoda towers 196 feet (60 m) and was constructed to ward off floods from the nearby Qiandang River as well as serve as a lighthouse for ships seeking anchorage.

Travel on to Meijiawu Tea Village to participate in an authentic tea ceremony as well as get a firsthand look at the tea-making process and its history within China. You’ll have time for lunch before making your way to historic West Lake for a scenic cruise passing by Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, the Bai and Su Causeways, and Solitary Hill. Disembark at Fish and Flower Harbor to walk along Su Causeway where tradition indicates you just might gain a little good luck for feeding the fish at Red Fish Pond.

For a climactic finish, wander through the popular Nine Creeks and Eighteen Gullies—a serene park where ancient creeks flow from the mountains and wind through the trees and verdant landscape. A place where poets, artists, and anyone seeking peace and quiet have surely escaped to for centuries.
