Wind through the labyrinthine tunnels housing 150 years of Seppelt Winery’s bottled history. Tour among rare and delicious cellared wines before a guided tasting of up to 20 varieties.

Open the cellar door and tour through nearly 2 miles (3 km) of tunnel, dug out by gold miners in the 1800s and since used as Seppelt Great Western Winery’s cellars. Known as “drives,” these tunnels are the largest of their kind in the southern hemisphere. Follow as a knowledgeable guide provides a flashlight-lit glimpse of over 150 years of winemaking tradition at one of Australia’s most innovative and historic wineries. Emerging from the drives, the tour continues with a visit to the Shaft House and a tasting of up to 20 Seppelt wines, led by an experienced wine educator.

Directions:
From Melbourne City Center:

• Leave Melbourne on Western Freeway via the Westgate Brigde, take the Ring Road exit
• Continue 4 1/2 miles (7 km) on Ring Road and exit to Ballarat and the Western Highway
• Stay on Western Highway, bypass Ballarat, and follow truck detour through Ararat
• Continue to Great Western, approx. 11 miles (18 km) from Ararat
• Look for signs for the Seppelt Great Western Winery

  This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 5 years old. It is reccommended that you wear comfortable walking shoes for the tunnel tour. Please allow your party enough travel time from Melbourne to arrive on time for your tour departure. Driving time from Melbourne to the winery is approximately 3 1/2 hours.
