Tour of the Set Lighting Department
The finest state-of-the-art inventory of lighting implements and equipment in the business can be found at Universal Studios Hollywood. The inventory includes hard to find, custom made equipment for lighting everything from soundstage interiors to entire city blocks. The Set Lighting department provides service to all productions on the Universal Studios Hollywood lot.

Tour of the Staff Shop
The staff of the "staff" shop create finished work for both interior and exterior sets, using mainly fiberglass, plastic resin and, staff plaster. Additionally, this department creates made to order, one-of-a-kind props and statuary for specific productions. Construction is truly elevated to an art form.

Tour of the Mill
The Mill is where most set construction-related woodworking takes place. These skilled tradesmen can do everything from simple framing to detailed finish work, from beginning to end. They can even manufacture furniture—including replicas of fine antiques, often working from nothing more than a simple sketch or photograph. They primarily construct indoor sets for use on soundstages, but are also responsible for maintaining the exteriors on our back lot.

Tour of the Metal Shop
It is here where the major structural supports for large-scale sets are initially planned and pieced out. This team also provides metal finish work for camera-ready exteriors. Additionally, they maintain much of the studio infrastructure where metal work is required.

Tour of the Sign Shop
A deceptively simple name for a place where some of the most intricate work of set decoration takes place. This department designs and produces camera-ready artwork, including large banners, product labels, and police badges. The sign shop team specializes in period-specific hand lettering for signage, shop windows, posters, and more.

Visit a functioning television studio “house” set
Explore the exterior and interior of a functioning television studio “house” set, the only one of its kind in the world.
