Lion Rock Country Park Walking Tour
Experience the wild beauty of Lion Rock—one of Hong Kong’s best-known peaks. During your hike through Lion Rock Country Park, you’ll encounter the Che Kung Temple, Amah Rock, and stunning views.
Che Kung and Sha Tin
Begin your walk with a visit to the Che Kung Temple in Sha Tin. This temple is dedicated to General Che, who earned fame for his loyalty during the last days of the Sung dynasty. You’ll also have a chance to explore one of the few remaining walled villages in Sha Tin.
Amah Rock
Shaped like a woman with a baby on her back, this naturally occurring rock offers stunning views of Hong Kong’s highest mountain peak: Tai Mo Shan. According to some legends, the faithful wife of a fisherman climbed the hill every day, carrying her son. She watched for the return of her husband from this hill, not knowing he had been drowned at sea. In reward for her faithfulness, she was turned into a rock by the Goddess of the Sea, so that her spirit could unite with that of her husband.
Lion Rock
Climb to the top of the 1,624-foot-high (495-meter-high) rock and you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of urban Kowloon, Hong Kong Island, Victoria Harbour, and the South China Sea. Retrace your steps off the peak, and to the MacLehose Trail. You’ll follow the trail along its ridge and to Eagles Nest hill, the Kowloon reservoirs, and finally to Old Tai Po Road.
