Snowshoeing to the Paint Pots

Examining the snow in Marble Canyon Photo provided by Discover Banff Tours

Snowshoe an easy trail through the Vermillion River valley to the Paint Pots, a fascinating mineral deposit. View artifacts of the fur trade that once ruled the region and watch for local wildlife.

Enjoy this scenic introduction to the sport of snowshoeing—and to the wonders of the Canadian Rockies. Snowshoe along an easy trail as a certified guide tells stories of Banff's indigenous peoples and the fur traders who once roamed the region. Clothes, tools, and techniques used by these hardy mountain dwellers also are on view. The tour culminates at the Paint Pots, a mineral deposit that once provided Native Americans with pigments for rock painting. Near the Paint Pots, you'll be rewarded with a distinctly Canadian treat—hot maple taffy.
