Hotel Information: Stacked on the slopes of Telluride's ski mountain, this nine-story hotel caters to skiers, golfers, and upscale travelers who want lots of luxury and personal attention. The sprawling lobby lounge welcomes guests with an oversized fireplace, leather chairs and sofas, original art, and a three-story atrium that overlooks Telluride and the surrounding peaks of the San Juan Mountains.
Amenity highlights: The resort is home to Colorado's largest health spa, the celebrated Golden Door. Occupying five floors, it includes a family level with an indoor/outdoor pool, spas, and water slide; children's pool, steam room, and sauna. The fitness level features an indoor lap pool, gym, exercise classes, squash and racquetball courts, rock-climbing wall, and outdoor tennis courts. Body-pampering treatments take place in 44 private rooms, with robes and slippers provided.
Insider tip: Guests are advised to book spa treatments in advance. For a complimentary spa experience, guests age 16 and older enjoy a purification ritual in the men's and women's "kivas." The ritual includes inhaling Colorado aromatic herbs in the steam room, sweating in a cedar-filled sauna, and soaking in the mineral-infused whirlpool.

Perched at 9,500 feet and flanked on three sides by the 14,000-foot pinnacles of the San Juan Mountains, the resort has 174 guestrooms that were renovated December 2008. Some rooms have balconies. All rooms have premium bedding (hypo-allergenic bedding available), VCRs, and CD players. Oversized bathrooms feature dual marble vanities, make-up mirrors, terry-cloth bathrobes, slippers, and spa amenities. Twice-daily housekeeping is available upon request.

The resort is located in Mountain Village, 1,000 feet above Telluride. The village, situated midway up the mountain, is at the base of the ski resort, which offers 1,700 skiable acres with 66 trails--21 percent beginner, 47 percent intermediate, and 32 percent advanced/expert--accessible by 12 lifts. Telluride’s highest peak, Gold Hill Summit, has an elevation of 12,247 feet, and the annual snowfall is 325 inches. Snowboarders appreciate the Air Garden's super half-pipe and rails.
