Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel

Amenity highlights: The Far Eastern Plaza’s towering 43 stories give it wide-ranging views from the majority of its floors. The rooftop outdoor heated pool also makes the most of these views. On the floor below, a health spa provides massages and treatments as well as spa tubs. Spa

The hotel’s Horizon Spa is located on the 40th floor. It offers six private spa suites and seven aromatherapy treatment rooms.

Offering a mixture of Western and Eastern treatments such as Chakra and Swedish Body, the Horizon Spa unifies its philosophy with a commitment to mental and physical health and relaxation.

Rooms

The Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza houses 422 guestrooms. Those on floors 33 to 37 offer access to the Horizon Club. All offer extensive views, either eastwards towards the massive 101 Tower, Taipei’s skyscraper, or westwards across Taipei and up and down Tun Hwa South Road. The building’s design maximizes these views with ceiling-high windows. All guestrooms offer high-speed Internet access (surcharge). Rooms also feature satellite TVs with pay movies, and voice mail. Marble bathrooms have second TVs. Minibars, complimentary welcome fruit, and pillow choices are additional highlights.

Location Details

Chiang Kai-Shek International (TPE) Approximate travel time is 50 minutes and distance is 50 km (30 miles).

Getting there: The most practical airport transport options are taxi and shuttle bus. Rental cars are not recommended for travelers unfamiliar with this area. Taxis are widely available to and from the airport. The shuttle buses depart to and from the airport every 20 minutes or so via several routes, which include a number of the major hotels.

Getting around: Taxis are the most practical transport solution for trips around Taipei’s metropolitan area. Bus and train networks exist but demand a sound grasp of routes map and Taipei’s geography.

Schedules and directions (subject to change without notice): The airport shuttle services are available from early morning until late night. Shuttle bus companies have ticket vendors to the left upon exiting international departures. The majority of Taipei hotels can be found along one of the bus routes, though the bus stop may be around the corner from the hotel. Guests should get precise directions from the ticket vendor.


Dining

Shanghai Pavilion - Shanghainese restaurant with traditional décor elements such as fireplace complemented a variety of Chinese artistic pieces. On a recent visit, former U.S. president Bill Clinton ordered additional servings of the sautéed freshwater shrimp. Open for lunch and dinner.

Marco Polo Restaurant - Italian restaurant serves traditional Mediterranean cuisine. Open for lunch and dinner. Long waiting lists on St. Valentine’s day, and a specific proposal table.

Ibuki - Japanese restaurant features views of display garden through a wall of windows. Private dining room sitting 10 is also available within the garden. Dishes include grilled beef tongue, sashimi, and assorted fresh seafood. Open for lunch and dinner.

Caf'e at Far Eastern - Large buffet-style restaurant located within the mall area at the base of the hotel. Centered around a large atrium. Range of cuisines and dishes include Chinese, Indian, Western, salads, and dessert. Open all day until early evening.

Shang Palace - Traditional Cantonese/Chinese restaurant with signature dishes such as deep fried crispy chicken, sautéed cucumber clams, and battered crab shell. Also serves dim sum. Open for lunch and dinner.

Li Bai Lounge - Relaxed atmosphere. Open afternoons and evenings.

Lobby Court - Western café forming part of the lobby. Open all day for tea, coffee, and light food.

Marco Polo lounge - Adjacent to the Marco Polo restaurant, the Marco Polo lounge sits on the 38th floor, offering views over the city and a choice of cigars such as Montecristo. Open from the afternoon until late evening, it also offers live music at night.
