Hotel Information: The open-air reception area of the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti mixes Polynesian artefacts with modern style. Stone moai (carved from compressed volcanic ash) pillars stand in a group at the entrance, behind which fountains splash. To the left, the curved reception area is decorated with rows of conch shells. Stairways lead up to the panoramic views found in Lafayette Bar, and down to the restaurant and gardens. A separate lounge area, scattered with brown and orange sofas, is where the resort's international business and holiday guests can take in sweeping views of the ocean.
Insider tip: The shores of Matavai Bay, on which the resort sits, have a rich historical past. The first European landing was in 1767 by Captain Samuel Wallis. A year later, Louis-Antoine de Bougainville followed to proclaim the island a French possession. The bay was also home to James Norman Hall, co-author of Mutiny on the Bounty, whose house is now a fascinating little museum located less than 1 km from the resort.

Location Details
Papeete Faa'a International Airport (PPT): Approximate travel time is 20 minutes and distance is 7 km
Getting there: Hotels in Tahiti are forbidden by law from picking guests up at the airport. The most convenient way to get to the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti is by taxi, or by arranging an airport pick up in advance from a private company. Car rentals are available online.
Getting around: A single paved road circumnavigates Tahiti island. Villages are served by local buses, all of which end up in the capital, Papeete, but these are irregular and not air conditioned. Buses heading eastwards towards the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti are painted green and white and start near the Central Market, departing every 20 minutes or so, or every hour at night. Fares are XPF120–200 (AU$2–$5) within the Papeete area and up to a maximum of XPF600 (AU$6–$10) to the end of the line. Taxis can be flagged in the street or found at taxi stands. Fares must be agreed upon at the start of the journey, since there are few meters, although rates are set by the government. Flagfall is XPF1,000 (AU$11–$15) and XPF120 (AU$1–$2) per km in the daytime and XPF240 (AU$3–$4) at night. Fees subject to change without notice.
The Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti operates a complimentary shuttle bus service to downtown Papeete twice a day. It departs the resort at 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM and returns from Papeete (near the Central Market) at 12:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
Approximate travel time from the airport to the hotel: 15 minutes
Approximate cost (subject to change without notice): XPF2,000 (AU$26–$36) or XPF4,000 (AU$56–$66) after 6 PM
Instructions: Taxi stands are located outside baggage claim at the airport. Taxis do not have meters, and it is advisable to check the fare before setting off. However, fares are set by the government, and if in doubt, guests should ask the driver to produce a fare table showing destinations and associated costs.
Rental cars are available online.
Approximate travel time: 20 minutes
Driving directions from Tahiti Faa'a International Airport (PPT): There is really only a single paved road circumnavigating Tahiti island, making driving outside Papeete relatively easy. Destinations are often referred to as a distance from Papeete and marked by the roadside with milestones or point kilometrique (Pk.). From the airport, take the road eastwards towards Papeete, travelling past the port. Turn right at the first roundabout and follow the road along the west coast. The Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti is on the left near the Pk. 7 milestone and just before the road starts to ascend a steep hill. The hotel building is not visible from the road (it is hidden behind a high wall), but the entrance to the driveway is clearly marked.
