Quay Grand Suites Sydney


Rooms

All 67 suites feature a spa bath and balcony with sweeping harbour or Royal Botanic Garden views. In 2005, 1-bedroom suites were refurbished with king-size beds, feather-down duvets, high thread count cotton sheets, two flat screen televisions (one for the bedroom and the second for the living area), and new ergonomic chairs for the executive desks. Stage 2 of the soft refurbishment program follows in July 2007, with all suites undergoing re-carpeting and painting (including a feature wall in the living area), and receiving new or recovered sofas, recovered dining chairs, new soft furnishing (lamps, rugs, and cushions), and new furniture (television cabinets and outdoor furniture). Umbrellas are available, on loan, from the concierge. Bathrooms offers a separate (spa) bath and shower.

Renovation Notice

A soft refurbishment program (for the suites) will commence in July 2007 and encompass a gradual replacement of soft furnishings and selected furniture within the suites. The upgrade will also involve re-painting. Minimal disruption is anticipated.

Recreation

Located on level two of the Quay Grand Suites are the gym, a 15-metre indoor (heated) pool, sauna, and spa tub. Floor-to-ceiling glass provides views towards Circular Quay and opens out to a terrace. The gym is divided into two areas: one section with machines such as exercise bikes, treadmills, and a rower; and another area with weights, full length mirrors, and a fit ball. This area is open from early morning until late daily, and accessed via a lift on level four (using a guest-suite security swipe card).

Opposite and approximately 100 metres from the hotel are the Royal Botanic Gardens which has numerous walking and jogging tracks including the popular foreshore path from the Opera House to Mrs Macquaries Chair offering impressive harbour views. Guests seeking a swim will find the harbourside Andrew Boy Charlton Pool via the Botanic Gardens and Domain, approximately 1.5 km from the hotel, and the Cook & Phillip (aquatic, fitness and recreation) park a similar distance south-east of the Quay Grand.

Property Amenities

Accessed from both Macquarie Street and Circular Quay, the 67-all-suite hotel was opened in 1999. Comprising 14 floors, Quay Grand occupies levels one to 11, while private residences are accommodated on the top three floors. Occupying a prime northerly city centre position overlooking the harbour, the hotel is tucked between the 30-hectare Royal Botanic Gardens and the busy ferry port of Circular Quay. Sydney Opera House is a non-strenuous 0.5 km stroll away and the historic Rocks district may be reached via a 1 km harbour-view walk. Much of corporate Sydney, and major department stores, shopping arcades, and designer fashions are within 1 km of the hotel. Recreational facilities include an indoor heated pool, sauna, spa tub, sun deck, and gym. Wireless Internet access is available across the hotel and a small Internet kiosk is located on level two. A valet grocery service is provided via the concierge and a small convenience store is located on Macquarie Street near the entrance to the hotel. All public areas are non-smoking and within suites, guests are asked to smoke on balconies only.

A small Internet kiosk/workstation is located on level two of the Quay Grand Suites and wireless Internet access is available across the entire building. Three function spaces are also available.

Conference/function rooms: Three function areas including two large meeting rooms with a dividing wall (between the two) allowing the rooms to open out to one larger function space with a capacity of 140 guests theatre-style over 170 square metres. There is also a boardroom with seating for up to 14 guests.

Driving directions from Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD): On leaving the airport, head for General Holmes Drive and then Southern Cross Drive. After approximately 6 km, this becomes Dowling Street (at Kensington). Take the Eastern Distributor Motorway (an underground tunnel) for approximately 4.2 km. The road then becomes the Cahill Expressway immediately after passing through the toll booths (where AU$4.50 in cash is due). Immediately bear left and take the Macquarie Street exit. Turn right into Macquarie Street and take the left lane. Continue down Macquarie Street for approximately 0.5 km, passing the Royal Botanic Gardens on the right and then crossing over Bridge Street (on the left at traffic lights, with the Conservatorium of Music on the right). Look for 61 Macquarie Street on the left. There is a pull-in bay for cars at the front of Quay Grand, where concierge staff will provide assistance.

Quadrant Restaurant - Located on level two. Views over Circular Quay and Sydney Harbour. Serves modern Australian cuisine with Asian and Mediterranean influences. À la carte. Open daily for breakfast; lunch from Monday-Friday; dinner from Monday-Saturday. Daily two-course lunch special and pre-theatre dinner special (main only with glass of Australian wine).

ECQ Bar - Located on level three (Macquarie Street/lobby level). Views of the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Harbour, and Circular Quay. Features private terrace. Open 7 days from noon until late. Serves light lunches and a wide range of beverages including wine, cocktails, coffee, and tea. Available for private functions.
