Hotel Information: Opened in 1958 in response to the burgeoning fashion for motoring, the Elite Palace Hotel sits above a garage and former car showroom, and is popular with both business and leisure travellers. The high-ceilinged, marble-floored lobby features large-scale impressionistic art prints, chandeliers, leather sofas and fresh flowers, and a Japanese-style screen door leads to the contemporary restaurant.
Amenity highlights: Guests benefit from a 50% discount at the extensive gym complex that occupies the entire third floor. Alongside free weights, resistance machines, cardio-vascular equipment and a solarium, the gym offers classes in aerobics, boxing and spinning. The spa centre features both men’s and women’s sauna facilities and a range of indulgent health and beauty treatments are available, including thermal baths, body scrubs and aromatherapy massage.
Insider tip: Visitors can spend the day walking, picnicking and boating on the lake at Haga Royal Park, the nearest point of which is 700 metres from the hotel. The park was established in the late 18th century and also features a butterfly museum, neoclassical Royal Pavilion and a brightly coloured pagoda.

The Elite Palace Hotel, Stockholm, occupies eight floors of an 11-storey building, and its 215 guestrooms are distributed over the top four floors. All rooms feature modern decor in subdued earth tones or pale peach and beige, with taupe or khaki fabrics, brushed-brass picture frames with floral prints, and floor-to-ceiling deep-orange curtains. Dark-wood furnishings include coffee tables, wardrobes, desks, drawers and arched, wall-mounted mirrors.

Taabla - Contemporary restaurant characterised by marble floors, a cushioned red central pillar, floor-length drapes, and understated slate and earth-tone seating. Includes wall-mounted flowerpots and a flatscreen television functioning as a virtual aquarium. Features a small bar area with high metal tables and bar stools, and a large cocktail cabinet. A la carte menu of contemporary international fine-dining fare, typified by dishes such as Seared Pike-Perch Served with Spinach and Mashed Almond-Potato Roll, Grilled Halibut with Roasted Beetroot, and Marinated Strawberries with Sabayonne served with Almond Cake. Open for lunch and dinner.
Bishop’s Arms - Traditional English-style pub with classic dark wood panelling and floorboards, decorated with artefacts and antiques including horse brasses, a grandfather clock, an accordion, and oars from the Oxford–Cambridge Boat Race. Serves a range of English draught and bottled beers and features a ‘wall of whiskies’, offering guests the chance to sample more than 200 varieties of single malt.
