Sheraton Steamboat Resort

Hotel Information: Located 10 steps from the Preview lift and 50 more from the Silver Bullet Gondola, the Sheraton is a convenient retreat for skiers. The sitting areas feature leather sofas, Southwestern fabrics, antler chandeliers, wood trim, and fresh flowers. The hotel attracts upscale travelers—both from the U.S. and abroad—who want near-instant access to the slopes plus a range of resort amenities.

Amenity highlights: Skiers appreciate ski valet services, equipment storage, an on-site ski shop, and quick walks to the slopes. Après-ski highlights include seven rooftop spas with views of the ski mountain and valley, as well as the Sol day spa. For dining, there's the mellow 3 Saddles Bar and Grille or the more raucous Bear River. Fine dining is available at Sevens. When the snow melts, golfers head for the resort's 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones II.

Insider tip: Steamboat Springs's reputation as a family-oriented ski town is well earned. Baby and toddler supply rentals abound—including cribs, high chairs, strollers to room monitors, toys, and more. Services include drop-in child care, grocery delivery, and during winter holidays, even Christmas tree delivery.

Recreation

The resort has its own 18-hole golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones II, which is open from May through October. The fitness center includes saunas, locker rooms, showers, and seven rooftop spas with views of the ski mountain or Yampa Valley.

Winter activities include downhill and cross-country skiing, night-time ski jumping and snow tubing, snowmobile tours, ice climbing, sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowshoeing, ice fishing, bi-plane rides, and glider rides.

Summer activities include hiking, rock climbing, tennis, four-wheel drive tours, photography tours, hot air balloon rides, fishing, miniature golf, horseback riding, kayaking, biking, river rafting, llama treks, gondola rides, guided nature walks, and cattle drives.

The hotel is at the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort, capped by 10,568-foot Mt. Werner. The resort has a 3,668-foot vertical drop and 2,939 skiable acres with 142 trails: 13 percent beginner, 56 percent intermediate, and 31 percent advanced. These are accessible by 25 lifts, including a gondola and four high-speed quads.

The average snowfall is 337 inches (in January, an average of 95 inches is champagne powder) thanks to the resort’s location on the windward side of the Park Range right before the Continental Divide.
