Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG): Approximate travel time is 60 minutes and distance is 45 km (28 miles).

Hongqiao Domestic Airport (SHA): Approximate travel time is 30 minutes and distance is 14 km (9 miles).

Getting there: Taxi is undoubtedly the most convenient way to get from both airports. The hotel also offers airport pickup. An airport shuttle bus service operates along a route from Pudong International Airport and serves the hotel. It is also possible to take the high-speed MAGLEV (magnetic levitation train), and change to a regular metro train. From Hongqiao Airport, public bus number 925 runs to People’s Square, just across the road from the hotel. Rental cars are not recommended for travelers unfamiliar with this area. Getting around: Getting around the city by public transport or taxi is both cheap and convenient. Metered taxis are abundant and cheap, with flagfall costing CNY10 (US$1–$5) for the first three km, and CNY2 (US$0.25) for subsequent km. Rates vary slightly between taxi companies and rise 30 percent late at night. Metros operate from around 6 AM to 10 AM. The nearest metro station to the hotel is People’s Square, just across the street from the hotel. Fares are CNY2–4 (less than US$1) per trip, but a rechargeable Jiaotong Card is more convenient for frequent users, and costs CNY30 (US$1–$5). Buses charge a flat fare of CNY1–2 (less than US$1), but are difficult to navigate without a knowledge of Chinese.

Train schedules and directions (subject to change without notice): Only Pudong International Airport is served by train. The MAGLEV (magnetic levitation train) takes eight minutes to travel the 31 km (19 miles) into the city, and is the world’s fastest train. It operates every 15 minutes from 7 AM to 9 PM and terminates at Long Yang Road station. From here, guests should join the metro to People’s Square station, which is just across the street from the Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World.

Instructions: Taxi stands at both airports are located outside baggage claim. Travelers are advised to avoid the taxi touts and follow the signs to the taxi rank, where queues form along metal railings and a marshal controls proceedings. Marshals may be able to translate the hotel name, but it would be preferable to have it written in Chinese characters, or have the hotel already located on a bilingual map, since few taxi drivers can speak English. Maps can be obtained from the tourist information desk inside both terminal buildings.
