Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG): Approximate travel time is 60 minutes and distance is 52 kilometres (32 miles).
Hongqiao Domestic Airport (SHA): Approximate travel time is 30 minutes and distance is 6.5 kilometres (4 miles).
Getting there: Taxis are undoubtedly the most convenient form of transport from both airports to the hotel. Howard Johnson All Suites Hotel also offers an airport pick-up service. Additionally, there is an airport shuttle bus service operating from Pudong International Airport to a point near the hotel. It is also possible to take the high-speed Shanghai Transrapid maglev train and change to a regular metro train. Rental cars are not recommended for travellers unfamiliar with this area.
Getting around: Getting around the city by public transport or taxi is both cheap and convenient. Metered taxis are abundant, with the flagfall costing CNY10 (US$1.35) for the first three kilometres, and CNY2 (US$0.25) per subsequent kilometre. Rates vary slightly between taxi companies and rise by 30% late at night. Metros run from around 6 AM–10 AM. The nearest metro station to Howard Johnson All Suites Hotel is Jiangsu Road South on line 2, but as this is not within walking distance a short taxi ride is required. Metro fares are CNY2–CNY4 (less than US$0.60) per trip, but a rechargeable Jiaotong Card is more convenient for frequent users, and costs CNY30 (US$4). Buses charge a flat fare of CNY1–CNY2 (less than US$0.30), but are difficult to navigate without knowledge of Chinese.

Instructions: Taxi stands at both airports are located outside the baggage claims halls. Travellers should avoid the taxi touts and follow the signs to the taxi rank, where queues form along metal railings and a marshal controls proceedings. Marshals may be able to translate the hotel name, but it would be advisable to have it written in Chinese characters, or to have the hotel already located on a bilingual map, since few taxi drivers speak English. Maps can be obtained from the tourist information desk inside the terminal buildings.

Schedule and directions (subject to change without notice): The Pudong Airport Shuttle has a desk in the Arrivals hall where travellers may obtain information on routes and schedules; departures are approximately every hour. The bus departs from outside the Arrivals hall. Travellers should join Line 3 to embark, and at the end of the route should alight at the Galaxy Hotel, which is near the intersection of Zhongshan and Yan’an Roads. From there it is a short taxi ride to the hotel.
There is no shuttle bus serving Hongqiao Airport to a destination near Howard Johnson All Suites Hotel. A CAAC shuttle and public buses provide transport into the city where it is possible to transfer to a taxi; however, this option is lengthy and laborious.

Train schedules and directions (subject to change without notice): Only Pudong International Airport is served by train. The high-speed maglev (magnetic levitation) train takes eight minutes to travel the 31 km (19 miles) into the city, and is the world’s fastest train. It operates every 15 minutes from 7 AM–9 PM and terminates at Long Yang Road station. From here, travellers should join the metro on Line 2 and continue to Jiangsu Road South station, which is a short taxi ride from the hotel.
