Hotel Information: Built on the original site of the University of Washington, this hotel became historically famous as the “grandest hotel west of the Mississippi.” Now a Seattle landmark, this bastion of grandeur is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the lobby, gilt-and-crystal chandeliers hang suspended amid pillars, ornate moldings, and hand-burnished oak walls. Asian-style urns and potted greens complement upholstered chairs, black/gold tables, and couches in gold-toned fabrics. An enormous flower arrangement bursts from a stone urn, anchoring the design at center.
Amenity highlights: A state-of-the-art fitness club offers a pool, spa tub, sauna, and weight room; plus treadmills, stationary bikes, stair steppers, and elliptical trainer – all with personal DVD players attached. On the 12th floor, the business center is equipped with computer stations and high-speed Internet access, plus a technology help-desk. Children receive toys and goodies at check-in, while baby amenities range from bottle warmers to night lights. Pets also receive VIP treatment as water dishes, food dishes, and other supplies are kept on hand.
Rooms
This hotel offers 450 guestrooms on 11 of 12 floors (the 12th floor houses a business center and private offices). Views are of the city. Traditional-style decor includes upholstered chairs, textured wallpaper, and crown moldings. Sitting areas are furnished with sofas, armchairs, and ottomans.
