The Arctic Club was established in 1917; it served as a gathering place for the few fortune-seekers who returned from the Klondike Gold Rush with more than just stories. Members included business men with ties to Alaska, former Alaskan residents, miners, and other gentlemen with wealth and wanderlust.
The club's heritage is obvious in the building's design; the third-floor exterior is ringed with 27 molded walrus heads, and the interior of the building features details such as Alaskan-marble stairways. The Northern Lights Dome Room, a lavish ballroom with Rococo gilding, includes a stained glass dome and frescoes.
