Hotel Information: Built in 1942 by dictator Raphael Trujillo for the Dominican elite in Santo Domingo, this was the first luxury hotel in the Dominican Republic. The Renaissance Jaragua Hotel & Casino is still the place for Dominicans to stage weddings and other social events, even as it now caters to international business travelers, vacationers, and after-dark revelers.
Amenity highlights: Set above a lawn sloping toward the Caribbean, a sundeck by the large pool provides sweeping sea views. The casino (one of the largest in the Caribbean) draws from all over the city. The casino's dance bar caters to adults, with a separate disco serving youths. Rooms
Renaissance Jaragua Hotel & Casino offers 300 guestrooms in a 10-story tower and a two-story older wing. Rooms are decorated in warm yellow and green color schemes, with white-rattan furniture and views of the city and distant ocean from private balconies and terraces. All rooms offer minibars, safes, and refrigerators in addition to satellite TV. Weekday newspaper delivery and 24-hour room service are standard.
