Insider tip: Opened in 1990, the Merry-Go-Round Museum delights visitors who come to learn about the art and history of the carousel. Guests can also hop aboard a restored Allen Herschell carousel and view master carvers as they restore carousel figures.

The Lodge at Sawmill Creek Resort’s numerous recreational amenities include a private beach and a marina where fishing charters and boating excursions (surcharges) can be arranged. The Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole golf course stretches along the Lake Erie shore amid the state-run nature preserve and wildlife marshes. A clubhouse and pro shop are also on hand. Guests can hike, walk, and jog around the vast Huron, Ohio property. An indoor pool has an adjacent spa tub, and an outdoor pool is open seasonally. Three tennis courts are complimentary, as are basketball and volleyball courts. The complimentary fitness center includes cardio and strength training equipment.
