Hotel Information: Built by a Puerto Rican engineer as a tribute to his French wife, Moineau, whom he had met on the French ocean liner SS Normandie, the Normandie Hotel was a sensation among social elites when it opened in 1942. The Normandie Hotel offers 173 guestrooms and suites in a seven-story triangular building with a curved front representing the decks of an ocean liner. Rooms and suites include separate parlors with sofas and reading chairs. Rooms and suites' shapes are modeled on an ocean-liner's staterooms, with porthole windows. Art Deco–inspired decor includes pale colors, light woods, and chrome accents. Comforters top the beds.
