Hotel Information: A personal greeter welcomes guests arriving at the palatial Nob Hill hotel with its gleaming polished-marble lobby overflowing with fresh flowers and decorated with 18th- and 19th-century works of art. Rooms

This Ritz-Carlton offers 336 completely renovated (June 2006) guestrooms in a historic nine-story building. All rooms have featherbeds and 400-thread-count Egyptian-cotton Frette linens, down comforters, and large writing desks.

Other highlights include 32-inch high-definition LCD flat-panel TVs, wireless Internet access (surcharge), DVD/CD players, electronic safes, gourmet in-room coffee machines, minibars, and complimentary bottled water. In-room child care is available to guests. Marble bathrooms have Kohler “rain” showerheads, bathrobes, double sinks, and telephones. The hotel has a DVD library.

Club Level rooms are located on the top two floors of the hotel and may have views of San Francisco Bay and the city skyline. The Dining Room - Elegant and ornately decorated fine-dining restaurant serving dinner Tuesday-Saturday. French cuisine with a Japanese accent, either à la carte, or as part of the chef’s six- or nine-item tasting menus; six-item vegetarian menu is available. First-course temptations include lobster ravioli, sashimi of big fin squid, and Tasmanian sea trout. Specialty main dishes could include Sancho peppercorn crusted duck breast, Hawaiian moi en papillote, or dry-aged beef ribeye. Reservations recommended.

The Terrace - Breakfast, brunch, and lunch, served daily, with dinner available Sunday and Monday. Rooftop restaurant specializing in Mediterranean cuisine with a California twist and featuring views of the San Francisco skyline. A garden courtyard is available for alfresco dining. Sunday jazz brunch is a San Francisco tradition—an all-day event that begins with caviar and a bottomless champagne glass, and ends with the last chocolate truffle on the dessert table.

The Lobby Lounge - Afternoon tea is served in the English tradition, along with cocktails in the grand Lobby Lounge with its Victorian décor, crystal chandeliers, original 18th- and 19th-century portraits, and ornate furnishings. A harpist entertains during teatime, followed by a jazz trio at dusk. Light fare is served in the evenings.

Ritz-Carlton Bar - An intimate, private-club atmosphere prevails in this elegant lobby bar with its rich woodwork, leather furnishings, and extensive collection of single-malt Scotch. Light fare is offered, including sandwiches and burgers.
