Insider tip: The City of Escondido is nine miles south of the resort and home to the acclaimed California Center for the Arts. Renowned French sculptress Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) constructed her mesmerizing snake-like maze Queen Califia's Magical Circle on a 12-acre natural habitat in the city's Kit Carson Park at the corner of Bear Valley Parkway and Mary Lane.

Privately-owned vacation villas with standardized amenities are spread throughout multiple one-, two-, and three-story buildings with exterior entrances and no elevators. Recreation
The sprawling Welk Resort San Diego is built around two golf courses and three recreation centers. Golfers choose between the 18-hole, par-54 Oaks course and the 18-hole, par-62 Fountains executive course. A pro shop offers lessons (surcharges), rentals, and tournament arrangements. Two sets of lighted tennis courts are complimentary, and the pro shop also carries tennis equipment and clothing.
Four recreation centers offer outdoor pools, fitness centers, spa tubs, and lounges with TVs and DVD players, pool tables, ping-pong tables, video games, or libraries. The resort's water park has a 140-foot waterslide and an interactive playground. Bike rentals are available at the market, and a small lake offers complimentary catch-and-release fishing. Guests can also play half-court basketball, bocce, or shuffleboard.
A daily activity program for all ages includes arts and crafts, water aerobics, movie nights, and welcome socials (surcharges may apply).
Pacific Ocean beaches, approximately 27 miles from the resort, provide a myriad of year-round recreational activities.
