The guestrooms in the Sheraton Taipei are spread out in East and West wings. Platform beds are outfitted with white duvet covers, and décor includes shades of light and dark sand-colored furnishings, and upholstered headboards. The marble bathrooms feature separate bathtubs, and shower stalls with rainfall showers. There are 29-inch flat-screen TVs with CNN, BBC, Star Movies, and Cinemax and pay movies. High-speed wired Internet access is available for a surcharge. Recreation

Located on the 17th floor the fitness center includes free weights, stationary bikes, and treadmills. All equipment faces the windows so guests can exercise and take in the city views. Four treatment rooms are available for massages, and male and female locker rooms each offer a spa tub, sauna, and steam room. Open from April through to December, the outdoor pool has a wooden deck with some sun lounges, and parasol patio tables and chairs. A squash court (surcharge) completes the health club offerings.

The par 72, 18-hole Taiwan Golf and Country Club is 25 km (15 miles) away, and the challenging 27-hole Linkou Golf and Country Club, of 9953 yards, is 30 km (19 miles) distant. A four-km (2.5 mile) jogging route takes guests past the Grand Pagoda building, and the manicured Chinese gardens of the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.

All 17 floors and 688 guestrooms of the Sheraton Taipei are accessed by bubble lifts from the lobby. The shopping arcade in the basement level includes souvenir shops, jewelry, tailors, florists, and boutiques. The health club overlooks the city’s skyline; equipment includes weights and cardio machines, as well as spa tubs, saunas, an outdoor pool, squash court, and four treatment rooms for massage. Location Details

Chiang Kai Shek International Airport (TPE): Approximate travel time is 45 minutes and distance is 45 km (28 miles).

Getting there:: The most cost efficient way to the hotel is by airport shuttle bus at TWD100 (US$3) per person/way. However, the travel time is dependant on the number of destinations and passengers. Alternatively, metered taxi or hotel limo are both available and faster, but more expensive. Rental cars are not recommended for travelers unfamiliar with this area.

The Dragon - Cantonese restaurant. Modern décor with brown high-back chairs paired with dark veneer wall panels, and lightened with white table linen. Dim sum lunch and à la carte dinner menu. Imperial palace dinner menu available. Deep-fried chicken wings stuffed with glutinous rice is a favorite.

Pizza Pub - Italian restaurant. Art décor scheme with dark wood furnishings against colorful geometric carpets, and fabrics in tones of brown and mauve. Booth seating available. Open for lunch and dinner.

The Guest House - Specializes in Sichuan and other provincial Chinese cuisine. Contemporary décor in neutral shades of beige and brown with splashes of blue. City views. Dim sums, seafood, roasted meats, and braised clay pot dishes are on the menu. Open for lunch and dinner.

Sukhothai - Thai cuisine. Polished dark wooden floors with rich wood décor, large clay Buddha images, and tropical indoor plants. Open for lunch and dinner. Smart casual dress.

Antoine Room - Fine French cuisine. European-inspired décor with contemporary velvet armchairs. Menu highlights include pheasant terrine, pan-fried goose liver with grape sauce, and lamb medallion with creamy truffle. Open for lunch and dinner.

Momoyama - Japanese restaurant with contemporary ambience. Six Tatami rooms. Fine Japanese cuisine and sushi. Open for lunch and dinner.

The Moet - Flamboyant interior with rich maroon and black furnishings. Lounge menu features champagne, cocktails, and wines. Live entertainment. Closed on Sundays. Open mid-evening till late.
