Hotel Information: Just 100 steps from the door of the Pantheon (the most precious example of Roman architecture in the city) is this terracotta-floored lobby lined with replica 17th-century frescoes where Jean-Paul Sartre once stayed. Popular with honeymooners and an international clientele of tourists, the 15th-century building has been putting up travelers to the Eternal City since 1467.
Amenity highlights: The breakfast terrace is a lovely place to start the day and acts as a private, shaded garden in summer. The high ceilings of the guest lounge, bedrooms, and breakfast room give the hotel an air of space and tranquility.
Insider tip: Look out for the ‘montone’ (mouton, an Alpine goat) who gave his name to the original hotel on this site, founded in 1467. As the symbol of the hotel, his triplet of curled horns peep out from the silver-plated lobby furniture, from lampshades in the bar and on items of furniture in some rooms.
Rooms
The Sole al Pantheon, Rome, has 31 guestrooms, 25 of which are located in the main part of the hotel. The other six are apartments in an annex 150 meters from the hotel, opposite the Pantheon. All have high ceilings and are furnished with antiques and prints. Desks and bedside tables are made from local Peperino dark green stone. Soft beds made up with sheets and blankets are decorated with padded headboards and canopies. All rooms feature antique prints of Roman scenes. Bathrooms have marble sink ledges, marble-edged infinity mirrors, and jetted tubs with power showers.

Terracotta tiles line the guest lounge at the back of the Sole al Pantheon’s ground floor. The large room has very high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Antique wooden lanterns, a Baroque marble fireplace, and stone balustrades give it a classical air. Chestnut-colored leather sofas and stone tables inlaid with terracotta tiles provide comfortable seating where drinks from the bar can be taken. There is also a laptop computer with high-speed Internet access (surcharge) and a photocopier in one corner for guest use.
