Hotel Information: Renovated in 2005, Hotel Trevi is only 25 metres from one of the principal streets leading to the Trevi Fountain, but that distance is enough to insulate the hotel from noise. Quiet extends to a small lobby furnished with an Asian rug, two green-leather club chairs, and original watercolours of Roman scenes and the countryside.
Amenity highlights: Because virtually no pedestrians use the streets outside the hotel, guests can relax in peace on wrought-iron benches flanked by potted plants. The top-floor roof garden, where complimentary American buffet breakfast is served, is another quiet haven. The roof garden's floor-to-ceiling windows provide views of terra-cotta tiled rooftops and a partial view of Italy's presidential residence, Palazzo dei Quirinale.
Insider tip: Città dell' Acqua, an archeological site adjacent to the hotel, is an underground excavation of ancient Roman residences. A €2 entrance fee (subject to change) permits a visitor to go on a self-guided tour up and down metal stairs to see how Romans once lived. Amphorae, statute parts, and other artifacts found on the site are displayed.
