Forum Hotel

Hotel Information: Partially dating from 1200 when it was constructed within the Forum of Nerva, the Forum Hotel building was for 600 years a convent abutting a little church, Saints Quirico and Giulitta. For the next 160 years, following partial reconstruction, the building was a residence. In 1960-1962, it was converted into a hotel for travellers wanting direct access to the attractions of ancient Rome.

Amenity highlights: A marble column from the Forum of Nerva penetrating through the lobby floor, still-visible sections of the convent's brick walls and archways, and twice-daily tolling of the adjacent church's bells recall the site's history. Glass cases in the lobby display pottery and other ancient Roman artefacts.

Insider tip: The forums of Nerva and Augustus across the street from the hotel are among the Imperial Forums built around the Roman Forum when it could no longer be expanded. Guests can observe the forums being further excavated by crossing the narrow street in front of the hotel, walking 100 metres, and turning right on Via dei Fori Imperiali, which borders the excavations.
