Hotel Information: The stark, neo-fascist marble façade belies the soft, velvet furnishings and wood detail inside the lobby and lounge. Guests step from the street, 200 metres from Termini station, through a revolving door to the reception desk and find marble busts of emperors and dignitaries from Rome’s ancient past perched on columns throughout the lobby area.
Amenity highlights: Guests can sip cocktails and enjoy bird’s eye views of downtown Rome in the rooftop garden bar. To help navigate Rome, the Hotel Mediterraneo provides guests with complimentary booklets that suggest walking tours of the city and has pollicino - personal digital assistants with maps of Rome - available to rent. A fitness room can be found on the ground floor and massages (surcharge) can be arranged in the massage room or in guestrooms.
Insider tip: A staff of restorers is employed to repair the hotel’s furnishings which are originals from the 1940s. Lamps and textiles are chosen, and often designed specifically, to maintain the building’s original style. Each stair of the original 10-storey marble staircase in the lobby is a solid slab of marble. A prominent Italian fashion designer used the hotel as the setting for an ad campaign.
