Hotel Information: A driveway of birch trees and camellia bushes provides an inviting introduction to Nugget Point. The wood-panelled hall features an open fire, deep leather sofas, oil paintings, and mood lighting; a semi-circular desk with huge armchairs constitutes the relaxed reception area. International tourists linger at the fire or the concierge nook, where a flat-screen TV demonstrates touring and adventure sport options.
Insider tip: Nugget Point looks directly over the Shotover River, a name synonymous in New Zealand with the adrenaline sport of jet boating, in which specially designed boats travel at high speed over extremely shallow water. Guests can watch the bright yellow Shotover jet boats executing spins on the river below, and see them wait at a bend under the cliffs for the all-clear before continuing to their destination.
