Amenity highlights: The Melia Caribe Tropical offers seven pools, including two large, freeform pools with swim-up bars; two activity pools; one children’s pool; two health spas with pools—one containing a spa treatments and the other a fitness center with cabins for massages (surcharges)—and both offering men's and women's saunas, steam rooms, and hot-water spa tub. The resort offers a disco and two theaters presenting nightly shows featuring the resort's talented dancers.

Insider tip: Not long after sunrise, savvy guests claim poolside, thatch-roof palapas shading platforms upon which rest thick, bed-like pads wide enough to accommodate a family. (Dozens of smaller palapas around the pools and on the beach are a consolation to latecomers.)

Rooms

The majority of amenities, activities, and gratuities at Melia Caribe Tropical All Inclusive are included in the room rate; guests will not be charged extra for the majority of amenities and activities (scroll up to the All-Inclusive Details section for more information).

Guest suites feature a separate sitting area set off by an arch and furnished with a couch and an upholstered chair and stool. A pink marble vanity and desk contrast with pale marble floors. Bathrooms contain a tub/shower combination. For a fee, an in-room safe protects valuables. The resort purifies water but recommends drinking bottled water provided in the room.

Golf suites are located in five two-story villas, across the road from the main resort, and are surrounded by the Cocotal Golf & Country Club.

There are also 144 Royal Service Suites. These Caribbean-style accommodations have a spa tub between the bathroom and the bedroom areas. Other amenities include plasma TVs in the bedrooms and living rooms; a balcony or terrace, private check-in/out, room services (limited), welcome amenities, and access to a private Royal Service Lounge where complimentary Internet access, coffee, beverages, and hors d'oeuvres are available throughout the day.

Royal butler and concierge services include assistance with reservations for spa, water sports, golf, eight tennis courts, as well as excursion planning. A Royal club, "Gabi Club," features a private pool offering poolside service, a restaurant, and a private beach area.

Golfing is available on site at the 27-hole Cocotal Golf & Country Club. This par 36/72 World Class Championship Golf Course, designed by José Pepe Gancedo, offers professional golf lessons (surcharges) at the Sol Meliá Golf Academy. Calloway golf equipment is available for rent at the pro shop. Golf carts are mandatory (surcharge for rental). Golf balls are for sale at the pro shop. Green fees are assessed according to the length of stay:

La Gondola - This popular spot plays four roles, offering an Italian buffet for lunch, Italian à la carte selections at dinner, fast foods from late evening until early morning, and a continental breakfast.

Hokkaido - This Japanese place features à la carte teppanyaki dinners, with guests seated around grills while chefs cook to order.

Le Gourmet - Serving international favorites such as Tuna in Dill Sauce and Duck in Orange Sauce, Le Gourmet is a fine-dining, à la carte restaurant.
