Recreation

Shawnee's famous 27-hole golf course was designed and built in 1906 by A.W. Tillinghast, and has hosted national tournaments including the 1938 PGA Championship (Paul Runyan beat Sam Snead) and the 1967 NCAA Championship (won by Hale Irwin). Twenty-four of the 27 holes are on an island in the middle of the Delaware River. The Shawnee Golf Academy offers lessons, clinics, and more.

The hotel also features a fitness center and a canoe base, which offers a convenient spot from which to canoe, raft, or tube down the Delaware River.

During the winter, skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are popular pastimes (located nearby).

Property Amenities

The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort is home to a renowned 27-hole championship course, where the likes of Arnold Palmer and Jackie Gleason have played. Much of the course is set on a private island in the middle of the Delaware River. Additionally, a nine-hole approach course is lighted for night play. Adjacent to the property, Shawnee Gap National Recreation Area offers hiking, skiing, biking, and canoeing.

Other amenities include an indoor pool, spa tub, fitness center, and tennis courts. A game room, lobby library with fireplace, and complimentary wireless Internet access are also available. The Spa Shawnee, opened in June 2007, offers massage and signature treatments.

Dating from 1904, the historic Shawnee Playhouse still operates a regular program of family-oriented musicals. For fine dining, the on-site River Room offers a casual atmosphere and overlooks the property’s 27-hole championship golf course. Opened in June 2007, The Bistro offers dining alfresco.

Sam Snead's Tavern - Located adjacent to the resort and offers three levels of indoor and outdoor dining and two bars. Angus steaks, seafood, chicken, and chops are prepared on an oak-fired grill and served with homemade sauces, dressings, and desserts. Live music on the bar level; a golf simulator and pool table are provided.

River Room - This restaurant and bar provides a casual atmosphere enhanced by the view overlooking the resort's championship golf course. Favorites include salads, wraps, steaks, and lamb dishes.

Buckwood Cafe - Serves coffee beverages and desserts. Located in the lobby and open during limited hours.

The Bistro - An outdoor café for dining alfresco.
