Insider tip: Although the view from Mount Washington has been lauded by USA Today as one of the best in the country, locals like to show off Pittsburgh by driving visitors eastward through the Fort Pitt Tunnel at night. When coming out of the tunnel, viewers are rewarded with a spectacular vista of the whole city lighted up.

Sheraton Station Square Hotel has a heated indoor 38-foot pool (maximum depth: five feet) with a shallow area roped off for children. A lifeguard/pool attendant is always on duty. Guests can unwind in the spa tub, sauna, and steam room. The fitness center, open from early morning to late night, offers elliptical machines, treadmills, recumbent bikes, cross trainers, free weights, stair climbers, resistance equipment, exercise mats, locker rooms, and showers.
