Travel Details

The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia

Hotel Information: A bank for nearly a century, The Ritz-Carlton remains a monument to opulence. The hotel meticulously restored original woodwork, marble, and brass fixtures throughout to open in 2000 for a luxury-seeking clientele of well-heeled executives and families. The lobby has 140-foot-high dome, $2 million in artwork and antiques, and turn-of-the-century-style furnishings.

Amenity highlights: Home to The Grill, one of the city's finest restaurants, the hotel also offers a hideaway cognac-and-cigar lounge in the former bank vault, and a sumptuous chocolate buffet on Thursday nights. Indulgent in-room services include butler-drawn baths and express-delivered champagne with strawberries and fresh cream (surcharge). Afternoon tea—served weekends in the magnificent Rotunda—is extremely popular with guests and locals, who book reservations far in advance.

Insider tip: For a bird's-eye view of The Ritz-Carlton—and the rest of the Philadelphia—guests can cross Broad Street to City Hall for a free, 15-minute tour to the top the 40-story tower. The tower is open Monday–Friday; timed tickets are available for 15-minute intervals, and should be reserved in advance. An elevator with five-person capacity takes visitors to the top.
