Hotel Information: The 1969 main building is an architectural marvel: a high-pitched Polynesian-style roof has exposed beams through which skylights admit light. New arrivals are escorted, via shuttle, to their rooms. On the verandah, golfers, couples, and families mingle with conference attendees.
Insider tip: Just a half-mile from the Makaha Resort lies a 15th-century Hawaiian temple, Kaneaki Heiau. Restored in 1969 to include prayer towers, ritual houses, temple images, and an altar, Kaneaki offers a glimpse into Hawaiian history. Entrance hours are limited.
