Hotel Information: Superb views, a wealth of wildlife, and utter tranquility await guests of this rustically elegant lodge located on a hill within 55,000-hectare (136,000-acre) Pilanesberg National Park in northwestern South Africa. Although just 15 km (about 9 miles) from Sun City’s casinos, resorts, and golf courses, the lodge feels far removed from civilization’s bright lights, noise, and frenetic pace.
Amenity highlights: During three-hour game drives, guests are likely to see Africa’s “Big Five”: rhinos, elephants, leopards, lions, and buffalo. Zebras, giraffes, hippos, mongoose, antelope, warthogs, and various primate species also make frequent appearances. The park is a birder’s paradise, home to some 360 species. Between adventures, a rock plunge pool offers a relaxing respite. The lodge hosts a high tea every afternoon, and a five-course dinner is served nightly.
Insider tip: In 1979, Pilanesberg National Park was the setting for Operation Genesis, the world's largest game translocation program at that time. About 6,000 animals representing 19 different species were moved here from across southern Africa.

Game drives are offered once or twice daily. Game walks led by experienced field guides can also be arranged. Both are included in the room rate. The lodge also has a rock plunge pool.
A telescope is on site, and there is usually one pair of binoculars in each game vehicle. Guests are advised to bring their own binoculars.

Tshukudu Bush Lodge stands high on a hilltop in the middle of Pilanesberg National Park. The malaria-free park is home to a huge and diverse array of wildlife, including Africa’s Big Five. Visitors can play “nature’s alphabet” as they try to spot animals from aardvark to zebra. The Bushveld landscape is impressive, too: thickly forested ravines, rocky ridges, broad grasslands, undulating hills, and a large central lake that is a hotspot for game activity.

Other activities include wine tastings, wildlife and astronomy talks, and a bush braai (barbecue) under the starry skies.

The Tshukudu Bush Lodge leaves roads and traffic behind; secure parking is provided at the Bakubung Lodge, with complimentary transfer (20-minute ride).
Please note that guests must ascend 132 steps to reach the Tshukudu Lodge. Children under 12 are not permitted at the lodge.

Dining
Tshukudo Bush Lodge Restaurant - International cuisine with African influences, paired with South African wines. Communal seating around dining table or outside on a covered deck. Brunch, high tea, dinner daily. All meals are included in the room rate.
Brunch may include fruit, cheese, and cold meat platters; croissants, muffins, and Danish; and bacon, eggs, and sausage. High tea features gourmet sandwiches, quiche, salads, scones, and fruit. Five-course dinners offer soup, appetizer, sorbet, choice of two main courses, and dessert, followed by Belgian chocolates, fresh fruits, cheese, cognac, and coffee. Room service may be available by arrangement.
Wine tastings are presented all or most evenings. The lodge also hosts barbecues under the stars, at the chef's discretion and weather permitting.
