Hotel Information: Built in 1928, this hotel was extensively renovated in 2004. The lobby is appointed with minimalist mahogany paneling and unframed impressionist-style oil paintings. Casually dressed vacationers escape the sun to relax in velvet-and-chrome armchairs, and executives ascend a curving marble staircase toward a fleet of meeting rooms.
Amenity highlights: Open from spring through the end of October, the rooftop terrace offers panoramic sea and city views, 40 chaise longues, a 9.5-meter (32-foot) splash pool, changing facilities, and a bar. Access is by surcharge, with a discount for guests. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel; a computer station in the lobby includes high-speed Internet access and a printer (surcharge).
The hotel’s L’Horloge restaurant serves sophisticated French cuisine in an elegant room with deep-red banquettes and gilt mirrors. Terrace dining is also available.
Insider tip: Rising 300 feet above the sea at the end of the Quai des Etats-Unis, the hill “Le Chateau” offers panoramic views of the Cote d’Azur. Visitors can climb the steep hill or take an elevator to the top, where they can view the ruins of an 11th-century cathedral and wander through the waterfall gardens.

The eight-storey Clarion Hotel Aston, Nice, offers 147 air-conditioned guestrooms, all with complimentary wireless Internet access. Tri-fold mirrors, flanked by vertical lights, are mounted above marble-topped desks with easily accessible outlets. Bedside tables and minibar cabinets are also marble-topped. Bedside panels control all lighting.

Recreation
The 9.5-meter (32-foot) pool on the rooftop features a furnished sundeck and excellent views of the city and the Bay of Angels.
The Promenade des Anglais, three blocks from the hotel, has wide sidewalks that run parallel to the beach, and are a favorite with joggers and in-line skaters. Across the Promenade, the pebbly beach is open all year. The sea is usually calm enough to enjoy from spring through autumn, and always pleasantly warm in summer. An ice-skating rink, gym, and two indoor pools (one with lanes for lap swimmers, and a family-friendly pool with waterslides) are available at the Palais des Sports, 2 km (1.25 miles) north.

L’Horloge - Fine-dining restaurant on the main floor, with mezzanine and outside terrace. Gilt mirrors, deep-red chairs and banquettes. Traditional menu, including French classics such as Le Magret de Canard aux Quetsches (Duck Breast with Dark Red Plums). Extensive Old World wine list. Lunch, dinner daily.
Phileas - Intimate, semi-formal top-floor restaurant. Brown-leather banquettes inside; small terrace outside with views of Vieux Nice. International dishes, such as Cote de Boeuf Grillée and Brochette de Poulet Tandoori. Open Tuesday through Saturday, serving dinner, and both lunch and dinner in summer.
Aston Cup - Hot-and-cold buffet breakfast is served daily in this large, casual restaurant. Rustic stone arches contrast with a classical circular balcony overlooking the lobby. Framed prints on the walls have a maritime theme.
Rooftop bar - Informal poolside bar with table seating, city views. Drinks, snacks, salads served all day. Open spring through October.
