Travel Details

Hudson, A Morgans Original

Hotel Information: The decor, bar, and clientele all meet the definition of "hip." The lobby, at the top of a 40-foot chartreuse-lit escalator, combines brick walls, an ivy-festooned glass roof, an oak reception desk, and glossy Brazilian cherry-wood floors. In its center is a private park with 45-foot trees, ivy-covered walls, and antique and modern garden furniture.

Amenity highlights: The popular bar draws locals and guests with its glowing green floor, muraled ceiling, and distinctive seating, such as huge club chairs and a log fitted with chair backs. A quieter mood prevails in the paneled library, where guests peruse the art books or play a game of billiards on antique purple-felt tables. In fair weather, guests congregate on the lushly landscaped terrace off the lobby and on the 15th-floor Sky Terrace.

Hudson Cafeteria - Despite its name, the hotel's restaurant offers service at long, communal tables as well as standard ones. Walls are brick, and floor-to-ceiling pantries hold dishes, glassware, and cutlery. The menu at lunch and dinner is eclectic, with macaroni and cheese sharing space with a Steak Frites that combines a thick cut of tuna with fingerling fries. Al fresco service is offered on the adjoining terrace in good weather.

Hudson Bar - This ultra-stylish New York hotspot, popular for people-watching, features a glass floor lit from beneath, a hand-painted ceiling mural by Italian artist Francesco Clemente, and distinctive seating.
