Hotel Information: Guests arrive at the inn via Avenue of the Live Oaks, a beautiful road shaded by majestic, 250-year-old, moss-draped oaks. Rice fields, marshes, and ponds dot the lush landscape. At the end of the road is an all-white antebellum mansion, built in the 1750s. Evening cordials and cocktails are served in the nearby Carriage House.
Insider tip: One former owner of the mansion was Dr. Henry Massingberd Tucker (1831-1904). When he returned from late-night calls, Tucker would ring the bell at the front gate, deposit his horses at the carriage house, then head to the mansion. Some say he can still be seen late at night, walking from the carriage house to his room.

A small outdoor freeform pool and sundeck overlook a lush green expanse of rice fields. Guests have private beach access, use of a beach house on Pawleys Island, and complimentary use of umbrellas, towels, and beach chairs. Other amenities include two tennis courts and a private freshwater marina linked to the Intracoastal Waterway. Daily moorage of guests’ boats (up to 38 feet) is available (space permitting). Bird watching is popular in the area, and guests can see egrets, hawks, herons, ospreys, and sandpipers in flight.
