Hotel Information: Situated south of Fifth Street (the SoFi district), this boutique hotel caters to young adults. The 1940 Art Deco building was renovated in 1999 but still displays a blue-neon sign proclaiming its original name, Lord Balfour. The lobby's curvy couches in soft blue tones, a blue ceiling, and tiny hanging lights often serve as a fashion-shoot background. Thick candles come out after dark.
Amenity highlights: Beach access is across the street through a small park. A complimentary Continental breakfast buffet is served daily on the hotel's veranda facing Ocean Drive or in a garden courtyard with wood tables. The veranda includes potted plants and cushioned rattan seating for people-watching. (The hotel does not have a swimming pool or sundeck.)
Insider tip: A notable party spot, Nikki Beach Club, is one block away.
Rooms
The Wave offers 66 guestrooms in a white four-story building. Created by Italian-born designer Romi Ferretti, guestrooms feature a minimalist decor of soft blues and grays against white walls and ceilings. Italian-made furniture includes blue upholstered platform beds; high, blue, café-style tables with gray upholstered barstool-chairs; and blue dressers with wave-shape drawers and frosted-glass tops.
Framed, computer-generated, abstract designs printed on silk contribute to the hotel's themes of wave-shaped curves. Bedside machines create a variety of soothing sounds. Chrome bedside lamps activate at a touch.
All rooms have radio/CD players, minibars, and bathrobes. Windows open behind wood blinds and blackout curtains. Wireless Internet access is complimentary.
